This site aims to be a source of information on the BC Societies Act<\/em>. Its mission is to provide commentary and document\u00a0resources from government and industry in plain language. Its audience is\u00a0those running societies, whether they be directors, volunteers, or senior managers; those interested in starting societies; volunteers; and advisors to the non-profit sector, such as lawyers, accountants, and volunteer managers.<\/p>\n

This site is a project of Steve Carey, a lawyer based out of Victoria, British Columbia. Steve has spent the majority of his career providing legal services to\u00a0BC societies, non-profit corporations, and charities. Steve was formerly a member of the charities and not-for-profit group at a leading regional law firm based in Vancouver,\u00a0and has participated in the voluntary sector through various charities and societies as a director, volunteer, and employee. Since 2014, he has been a director-at-large of the\u00a0Canadian Bar Association’s Charities and Not-for-Profit Subsection (BC), and serves as the legislative liaison.<\/p>\n
