The People’s Law School has published a free online how-to guide to transition a BC society under the new Societies Act. The guide provides a step-by-step breakdown of the transition process and a robust breakdown of organizational governance topics and new Act benefits which a BC society may wish to revise its bylaws to take advantage of.

The guide, Transitioning an Existing Society: A how-to guide for non-profits in BC, was created by Drew Jackson, a Vancouver-based lawyer and law librarian. It provides a great overview of the entire process of transition, as well as of governance items transitioning societies may wish to consider as part of the transition process. It was reviewed by yours truly (Steve Carey of Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP), Michael Blatchford of Bull Housser + Tupper LLP, and Mary Childs of Ethos Law Group.

Drew has also provided some great videos, embedded below.

Thanks to Drew for all his hard work on this. These are great materials and are really of value to societies in BC.
